Art runs in the family
Gasto-Rainbow Art Gallery sits in Kpasrakope, Aflao — a few steps from the Atlantic and minutes from one of West Africa’s busiest borders. It’s a meeting point, and so is the gallery: a place where local life, Ghanaian tradition and contemporary art come together.
It is the home of artist Louis Kwadzo Ankrah — Gasto Rainbow. He began learning art at the age of 10 from his late father, Emmanuel Kwadzo Ankrah, a renowned Ghanaian artist and respected teacher known as “Rainbow Art”.
Louis first worked as Gasto Art. After his father’s passing he joined the two names together — Gasto and Rainbow — so that his father’s legacy lives on in everything the gallery does. Today his work spans realism, mixed media, semi-abstract, abstract and contemporary art, batik and tie-dye, and since 1998 he has exhibited and taught across Ghana, Togo, Côte d’Ivoire, Nigeria and Benin.
